Antero Alli and Sylvi Alli

Antero and Sylvi have been in artistic and creative collaboration since 1989 when they first met in Seattle WA. In 1996, they moved to Berkeley together to start Vertical Pool as an intermedia arts group for their various solo and joint projects, as well as, collaborations with others in the deep talent pool of the S.F. Bay area. They are currently promoting screenings of their latest film, "Flamingos".


 

Antero Alli
Between 1975 and 2005, Antero wrote, directed, and produced a series of original theatre works. Since 1977, he has been developing a non-performance medium of paratheatre combining techniques of physical theatre, dance, voice, and Zazen (documented in his book,"Towards an Archeology of the Soul" and in videos). Each year Antero leads private group paratheatre labs which occasionally culminate in public events. In 1980, Antero wrote songs and performed in his neopunk band, The Frozen Beauties,
in Berkeley. Between 1991-95, Antero was editor/publisher of Talking Raven Quarterly, an iconoclastic literary journal in Seattle WA. Between 1992 and 2002, Antero and Sylvi curated the Nomad VideoFilm Festival, a popular west coast touring showcase of experimental short works. Since 1993, Antero has written and directed numerous underground movies (now available on dvd), which screen in limited runs in the arthouses of the greater San Francisco bay area, Portland, Seattle, and points between. Antero is also an author of many books and an astrologer. He is currently in post-production for "PARATHEATRICAL RESEARCH", a paratheatre video document (premiere/dvd release: September, 2012).

Sylvi Alli
After extensive training in classical piano, Sylvi turned to painting and between 1976-93, her art was shown in galleries in the U.S. and Europe. In 1989, she began her journey into ambient/industrial electronic music and in 1995, she started singing. These elements soon combined in the development of soundtracks for dance, theatre and cinema projects. Sylvi has scored the songs and music for most of Antero's films & theatre since 1989. In 1996, she designed and published "The Vertical Oracle" (a neo-Tarot deck) and starred in "Lily in Limbo", a 27-minute poetry film. Her music CDs include "Too Near the Ghosts", "Dream of the Blue Moth", "Under a Shipwrecked Moon", "A Hundred Birds", "Vessel" and "Flamingos" . Sylvi has been a core member of ParaTheatrical ReSearch since 1998 and has acted in many of Antero's films ("Tragos", "Hysteria", "Under a Shipwrecked Moon", "The Greater Circulation" and "The Invisible Forest"). Sylvi teaches women's private singing lessons and Embodied Voice Workshops. Sylvi's recent enterprise, LunarMuse, features her original hand-crafted jewelery and adornments.
